LOOKING BACK AT 2009 As the last year was the first year for the Bicentnenial, a few "surprises" came out. The community of Lincoln collectors and history buffs strove hard to find something new of Lincoln. It was the year of finsing Lincoln hiding in plain sight at Gettysburg as a mmember of the processional into the Soldier's Monument ceremonies. Granted the photos were published in reverse, it was still clear that Lincoln was definitely in that processional, his hand saluting what was mostly a military crowd. Below is a maginified portion of the photo (from left to right) the original, restored black and white image and a colorized image. © Copyright 2009 Bryan Eaton all rights reserved Yet another claim of a "new" Lincoln photograph was claimed to come from the family of U.S. Grant's family. The claim is that It depicts Lincoln in front of the White House. This photo was claimed to be the "third" of the Warren photos. It seems unlikely that Lincoln would have traveled to the other side of the White House for this picture. In fact, Lincoln was a reluctant participant in the session, leaving a Cabinet session at the request of his son, Tad. Lincoln is to have asked Warren if he was done on the balcony and then returned to the Cabinet session. Nonetheless, the image is small and will never be able to be validated. The image is reproduced here (after colorization by Lincoln graphic artist and author, Bryan Eaton).
Finally,
on the subject of Lincoln photographs, 2009 brought the first publication
of the Lincoln photographic collection in color from the book "Color
of Lincoln". It was called the only thing truly new about Lincoln
by the Lincoln Presidential Library's Lincoln collection curator. The
book is available at Amazon.com. AbrahamLincolnStore.com
and from the book website at www.coloroflincoln.com
